I work with a lot of texture and colour in my abstracts. I love to use sand, stones, different texture mediums that I can scrape and mark. I am always looking at different things that I can use to create texture, bubble wrap, jar lids, pencils, car parts even. I play with colours adding layers until I get what is supposed to come out from the painting.

Abstract painting for me means I don’t always know where it will end up, in fact rarely do I know. I often start with texture which may start out intentional but at some point the art just takes over and as I add colour everything changes. The colours decide and many times there are layers and layers and you don’t even see any of the colours that started out.  The art reveals itself, some I love, some I like and some are not for me but likely made for someone else, someone show I don’t even know.

When they are complete I often see the patterns of nature come though, the spirituality that I infuse into the art.

20 x 30" Acrylic and Mica on 2"Gallery wrapped Canvas
The texture and colours remind me of a beach at night, just before it gets too dark to see. Where everything is calm and the stars are twinkling in the sky, the waves gently lapping against the beach as you sit with your arms tucked around your knees thinking about your whole life ahead of you and the possibilities of what is yet to come.

Under Water Dreaming
60" x 24" Acrylic and Silver Leaf on Canvas
Have you ever stood at the edge of lake and looked into the water with the sun shining down? Really looked?  Or maybe you were in a boat and you were staring down into the water and you started to see all the different colours, all the different things going on in the water. This is what this painting makes me think of, the life and dreams under the water surface.
